Supporting This Girl Can

Taekwondo Council UK is a proud supporter of This Girl Can

This Girl Can is a national campaign, funded by Sport England and The National Lottery, that celebrates women getting active — however they look, whatever their ability, and no matter how they choose to move. Since 2015, it's helped millions of women push past the fear of judgement that so often stands between them and being active.

At Taekwondo Council UK, we see that same spirit in our clubs every week — women and girls training, sparring, and progressing through the grades, from simply taking that first step into class. That's what This Girl Can is all about, and it's what taekwondo has always offered: a space to build confidence, strength, and belonging, on your own terms.

Why we're getting behind it

Encouraging our member clubs and instructors to welcome more women and girls onto the mats

Supporting instructors to build confident, judgement-free training spaces

Helping women find their own way of getting active through taekwondo

Get involved

We want as many of our clubs, instructors, and members as possible to be part of this. Here's how you can help:

For clubs and instructors

Consider running a women-and-girls-only session, taster class, or open evening — no experience necessary, all bodies and abilities welcome

Share photos or short videos from training (with member consent) showing the reality of women and girls doing taekwondo, however sweaty, however unpolished, however proud

Talk to your members about This Girl Can and encourage them to share their own stories

For members

If you're a woman or girl training with us, share what taekwondo means to you — whether that's confidence, fitness, self-defence, or just somewhere to let off steam

Bring a friend along who's been thinking about starting but hasn't taken the leap yet

Join the conversation

It's easy to get involved online. Tag us using @ThisGirlCanUk or the #ThisGirlCan hashtag to join their wider conversation.

We'd also love to share your story ourselves — use #TCUK and tag @taekwondo_council_uk, and we'll help spread the word across our own channels too.

I joined the ITC originally in 2019 and have had the pleasure of watching it grow into what is now the TCUK. I have had nothing but support and encouragement. At a time where I was learning how to be a completely new and independent association, TCUK offered me a massive life line, especially for policies and ensuring I had all the paperwork necessary in place. They are easy to contact and talk to about any issues or problems and always go the extra mile.

I am very proud to say I am a member of the TCUK and recognise them as our NGB.
