Clean Sport & Anti-Doping

Promoting clean, fair and safe participation in Taekwon-Do.

Our Commitment to Clean Sport

Taekwondo Council United Kingdom (TCUK) is committed to promoting clean, fair and safe participation in Taekwon-Do.

We believe everyone involved in Taekwon-Do deserves an environment that promotes integrity, respect, fairness and participant wellbeing, whether they practise recreationally, develop their technical skills or compete.

Doping undermines fair competition, damages the integrity of sport and can put participants' health at risk.

TCUK supports the principles of the World Anti-Doping Code and promotes awareness of the requirements and guidance provided by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Our approach focuses on education, prevention, responsible competition practices and clear reporting procedures.

Understanding Your Responsibilities

Anti-doping is not simply about avoiding performance-enhancing drugs. It also includes responsibilities relating to medicines, supplements, prohibited methods and conduct that may constitute an Anti-Doping Rule Violation.

Athletes, coaches, instructors, officials and those supporting participants should understand the rules applicable to their activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Checking medicines and treatments before use where anti-doping rules apply.
  • Understanding the risks associated with nutritional supplements.
  • Being aware of the principle of strict liability.
  • Following relevant competition and governing-body requirements.
  • Completing Clean Sport education where required.
  • Reporting genuine anti-doping concerns through appropriate channels.

Under the principle of strict liability, athletes may be responsible for prohibited substances found in their bodies, even where there was no intention to cheat.

Clean Sport in Competition

TCUK promotes Clean Sport principles across competitions and events operating under its authority.

Competitors participating in relevant TCUK-sanctioned events are expected to comply with the TCUK Clean Sport & Anti-Doping Policy and any applicable anti-doping rules.

Where participants enter competitions or performance pathways governed by another national or international body, additional requirements may apply.

TCUK provides standard Clean Sport wording for relevant competition entry forms and event communications.

Education and Awareness

Education is central to TCUK's approach to Clean Sport.

Our Clean Sport Education & Implementation Plan 2026–27 outlines how we support awareness through member communications, competition information and access to reliable external resources.

We aim to help participants understand the risks of inadvertent doping, their responsibilities under applicable rules and where to find trusted advice.

Reporting a Concern

If you have concerns about possible doping, prohibited substances or other anti-doping rule violations, you can contact TCUK or report directly to UK Anti-Doping.

Be part of shaping the future of Taekwondo in the UK.

“

I joined the ITC originally in 2019 and have had the pleasure of watching it grow into what is now the TCUK. I have had nothing but support and encouragement. At a time where I was learning how to be a completely new and independent association, TCUK offered me a massive life line, especially for policies and ensuring I had all the paperwork necessary in place. They are easy to contact and talk to about any issues or problems and always go the extra mile.

I am very proud to say I am a member of the TCUK and recognise them as our NGB.
